Horse Creek Talk and Walk – 17th October in the Cochrane Library

Concerns about Statement of Concerns re:

Recently a Notice to Divert Water was published in two local papers. This involved pumping millions of brackish water from Cochrane Lake into Horse Creek – a stream in which trout spawn in the lower reaches.

August 11th and 13th were the dates it appeared. However, on the G o A website the deadline for filing S o C’s was 7th August!

July 2015 – drought in the watershed.

Today an LCARF volunteer assisted our consultant with the July round of water quality monitoring in the Horse Creek watershed. It should come as no surprise that there is very low flow at the moment – the lowest we have recorded since we started the program in 2012.

Wetlands are drying up which makes life difficult for birds and other fauna.

We did see Wilsons’ phalaropes where they nested last year. Snipe,godwits and lots of swallows under the bridges.
